Time Passes

It's funny how humans make their little plans, and they have these little expectations for what they hope things to be like, as if they really had any control over the way things will actually turn out.

*a rather deep opening sentence to this post, i know*

For instance, this year went absolutely nothing how I expected it would.

There's only one thing that happened this year that went how I expected. My movie-watching plans! I determined to watch more movies this year, and by George, I definitely did! That I am glad of. There were many movies that really needed to be watched by me.
I kept a movie log throughout the year, and I plan to hopefully post it some time in December... if I can actually DO SOMETHING I PLAN, FOR ONCE.

Did you know I expected this year to be one of my biggest blogging years yet for The Storybook Journal? I had so many post ideas... I even planned to do some special blogging with my best friend, since she finally got a blog. But it turned out this was one of my smallest blogging years instead.

That's why I'm writing this post right now, actually. Just to say 'hello' to you all. I miss you, to be honest. I miss my blogging life.

But as one of my personal favorite influential Owl City songs states: 'Everything changes' (Firebird, Cinematic album).

Everything changes.

And you know what? I'm ok with that.

Change is... sad.
But it's good.
It can be bad too, of course, but when change is bad, you don't have to be hopeless because the bad will come full circle and change, yet again, to good.
Which, of course, grows faith in God the whole time.
It's really quite a good system.

I think I've changed more this year than any year in so far in my life. Both for good, and for bad.
Thankfully, God has remained the same. I've learned that I can always count on Him.
I'm still learning that.

Well, this post is a whole lot of nothing. As I said, I'm just popping in to say 'hello'. I am not gone; I'm still here. Just not blogging much.
That's all. I guess I'll go now.. but I suppose you want a little update on my life.

I impulsively started watching a show on Amazon Prime. It's just called 'Victoria'. Starting Jenna Coleman as Queen Victoria.
When it first began, the story line was rather slow, but I liked it. I always like some good, down-to-earth history drama. As the season went on (I just began watching Season Two), thing started heating up dramatically, and I am still really enjoying it! This is one of the only shows I don't watch with the rest of my family... so it's kind of 'my show'. :)

I've had a musical discovery as well... one which will quite surprise you. It's Queen. The old band. From the 70s-80s. I saw the movie 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in theaters (a movie not for everyone... view with discretion and a conservative movie review, pls), and to be honest I was really inspired by the creation of their hit music as well as the story behind everything they did.
Sure, I don't condone all of their songs (some of their songs have lyrics that are... *ahem* unworthy of my ears...) I only listen to the appropriate ones. I also don't support all the messages in the movie, which is why I recommend reading a conservative movie review about it before watching.
But still. Apart from those things, their songs have such a fun, chill vibe that I just can't help loving. <3 And I love the movie, too. In spite of some content. I would see it again in a heartbeat if someone asked me.

What else? Not too much has changed as far as significant events in my life since last I blogged. To be honest, it's been quite boring. :) But, a new year is coming, with new plans.
New ideas.
New expectations.

We'll see how it goes.

:) :) :)

Goodbye, friends.
For now.

~ Winter Wonderland Tag ~

Hello, my little friends!
I don't know if any of you have noticed, but... IT'S DECEMBER. And December always gets me thinking about Winter.
So, I came up with this cute little tag so that we can appreciate Winter better. Yes, yes... I know that the First Day of Winter isn't technically until December 21st... but hey.
We can still have fun with this Winter weather by doing a tag, right?
Here are the rules!
  • Link back to The Storybook Journal (Tryin' to get famous over here, peeps.)
  • Answer the questions; think Winter-y thoughts! Include pictures, if you like.
  • Tag at least 3 other bloggers, or more if you're feeling ambitious. :)
 Here I go:
1. Name a few things you love about Winter, and a few things you don't love so much about it.
I have a strange love-hate relationship with Winter. It is simultaneously my favorite and least favorite season in the whole year. One thing's for sure, though. Come March, I'm always ready and waiting for SPRING.
Things I LOVE:
1. Snooooowwww. Especially the kind that clings to the trees. Who doesn't love to wake up in the morning and look out the window to see their yard covered in glistening powdered sugar...?
2. How grey the sky is (Nah, I'm not a gloomy person; I just like grey.)
3. Cold hands. I am very intrigued by cold hands. Don't ask: you know me well enough to understand that I like strange things for no apparent reason.

Things I DO NOT LOVE:
1. Slushy, dirty, wet, depressing snow. In other words, OLD snow that needs to MELT and DIE.
2. The cooooolllllld *shivers*. TURN UP THE HEAT, WILL YOU?!?!?!?!?
3. It's too long. :( Generally speaking, I like Winter, but too much of one thing is never good (except when you're talking about God, of course). Come January, I'm pretty much ready for Spring.

2. When you were a child, did you "believe" in Santa Claus?
Why no! We didn't "do" the whole Mr. Fatty Claus thing. (*EXCUSE ME* I mean SANTA Claus...). We never did The Tooth Fairy or the Easter Bunny either.
We just did God. XD
Anyways. Last time I checked, Santa didn't die for anyone. He can't save anyone. Or am I somehow getting this mixed up? *shrugs*

3. Is there a book or movie that you really love to read in the Winter as opposed to other times of year?
I like to watch (and read!) Bleak House in the Winter. It's kind of a Winter-y series- complete with oppressive gloom, cloudy, depressing skies and shivering poor people. I mean, Charles Dickens wrote it, so you know it's "bleak" for sure.
I also like to read the Lord of the Rings in the Wintertime. Not the whole series, but I love to pick out my favorite sections throughout the trilogy (#Faramir and Eowyn #aw yiss).
For some reason, whenever I imagine dangerous medieval quests, I imagine them to be in Winter. I don't know why.

4. Is there a particular Christmas movie that you watch EVERY year as tradition?
When I was growing up, we would always watch It's a Wonderful Life (because you know... Jimmy Stewart is the best and why else?) around Christmastime, but I think last year we watched White Christmas instead, which was also pretty enjoyable.

5. Do you usually get a real tree or a fake tree for Christmas? Who's in charge of decorating it at your house?
Every year, for as long as I can remember, we've gotten a REAL tree. Sure, you have to clean up the needles. Sure, you have to remember to water it. Sure, you gotta haul it in and haul it out every year. Sure, it's harder to put the lights on because the needles STICK you. Sure, sure, sure. BUT THAT'S WHAT WE LIKE TO DO, OK.
*tosses head*

6. Does your family usually stay home or go visiting (friends, relatives, etc.) on Christmas Day?
We always, always, ALWAYS stay home on Christmas Day. Sometimes we go places on Christmas EVE, but on Christmas DAY we stay home. I think Christmas would be ruined for me if I had to GO anywhere. :P

7. What does your family usually do on New Years Eve? Any traditions? Do you ever stay up till midnight?
Yes, and yes. We always stay up till midnight. We play games and eat homemade appetizers. We turn on the TV and watch 'The Ball" drop in New York. We go out on the porch and say "Happy New Year". Then, we go to bed. Sound like fun?
O
8. Do you get snow where you live? If so, have you ever built a snowman and named him Olaf?
Why, no. I can sing the song, though.

9. If it's snowing outside, would you prefer to go outside and build snowmen and enjoy it, or would you rather stay inside with a blanket and something hot to drink and maybe a movie or a book?
It depends on the kind of snow it is (such as sticky, or wet and soppy, etc), and what sort of mood I'm in at the time. I usually like to stay inside and look out the window, but I have been guilty of enjoying the snow out-of-doors too.

10. When do you start looking forward to or getting excited about Spring?
Well, every Winter, Spring seems to be in the back of my mind. I ALWAYS look forward to Spring, even in the SUMMER I like Spring the best. But I would say that after my birthday and after Valentine's day, there's nothing else for me to look forward to, so I just keep looking for Spring.
So yeah, after Valentine's day. :)

~*~*~

Well, there you go. I hope you enjoy my little tag. :) Have a good Winter, peeps! I tried to post this close to Christmas, but not TOO close so that people would still have time to do it!

Here is the list of questions:

1. Name a few things you love about Winter, and a few things you don't love so much about it.
2. When you were a child, did you "believe" in Santa Claus?
3. Is there a book or movie that you really love to read in the Winter as opposed to other times of year?
4. Is there a particular Christmas movie that you watch EVERY year as tradition?
5. Do you usually get a real tree or a fake tree for Christmas? Who's in charge of decorating it at your house?
6. Does your family usually stay home or go visiting (relatives, friends, etc.) on Christmas Day?
7. What does your family usually do on New Years Eve? Any traditions? Do you ever stay up till midnight?
8. Do you get snow where you live? If so, have you ever built a snowman and named him Olaf?
9. If it's snowing outside, would you prefer to go outside and build snowmen and enjoy it, or would you rather stay inside with a blanket and something hot to drink and maybe a movie or a book?
10. When do you start looking forward to or getting excited about Spring?

A Very Cheesy Blog Look Update

Blog: Hey. Amaris.

Me: ...

Blog: Amaris...

Me: ...

Blog: YOOHOO. AMARIS.

Me: What?!

Blog: It's time to change me.

Me: Um ... what?

Blog: Change me, I'm bored.

Me: What are you talking about?

Blog: *groans* Meee. People are tired of looking at the same old me. You have to change me up. You know. Switch around the colors, get different pictures for the sidebar, write a post about the 'new blog look' that no one cares about.

Me: Um. Ok. What do you have in mind?

Blog: I don't know. Why don't you think of something?

Me: Ok, how bout something on the grey side?

Blog: Oh, for Pete's sake, why do you like grey so much???

Me: I don't know, I just do.

Blog: *sigh* Brother. Well, show me a picture.

Me: Ok. How does this look?
--

--
Blog: I don't like it.

Me: Oh, come on! It's perfect for Winter!

Blog: Nah. You dress me up like that, no one will ever read your blog again.

Me: Uh, that's ok for me. I don't really write my blog for people, I write it because I enjoy it.

Blog: Well, you better make a Fall blog look for next year.

Me: Don't worry, I will.

Blog: Fine. Now can we go get some pumpkin spice lattes?

Me: I TOLD YOU TO NEVER SAY THOSE THREE WORDS TO ME.

Blog: Sor-ry! Gosh! Well, just put your new blog up and I'll go drink my p------ s---- l----, and DON'T FORGET TO PUT A PICTURE OF THE OLD BLOG LOOK! You know, people get very sentimental about those kinds of things. Old blog looks, and such.

Me: Don't worry, I will. I'm typing this all up right now.

Blog: Wait, are you writing all this down? TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD?!?!?!?!

Me: Bye.

Blog: Hey!

* * * * *

No, wait. I have a few P.s.'s:

p.s. Firstly, I wanted to apologize that I didn't post yesterday as I had intended to, but I WAS BUSY ALL DAY WATCHING AN ECLIPSE. You know. No big deal. Anyways, I was busy with that, because it did involve some traveling, and I was not able to post this because it was too late by the time I got home.
But anyways, more on the eclipse later.

* * * * *
p.p.s. Also (yes this is random), here's a shout-out to the very first time I've ever shown (even part of) my face to the internet. Behold my new profile pic. I realize it's not a big deal, but it's kind of a big step for me. *shrug* I don't know.
#yay #accomplishments

 ...and yes I know my hands are reflected in the picture. #i'm not an expert at this

Ok, that's all. See you later!

This is the End

Before you ask, no.
This post is not my farewell letter to the world.

This is the end to that little ghost story that I was telling you a couple of posts ago.
And my apologies for taking so long to post it.
I was quite busy. More on that later.
I shall continue where I left off (that is, if anyone CARES anymore after like a million days...) :

"Look. They're gone."

What. On. Earth.
Who in the heck is down there?
What is?
I called my sister again, this time in near panic. I begged her to help me try to find the whisper once more. Reluctantly, she joined me as I went up and down the stairs countless times over again.
My heart pounded. What could this possibly be about?

Finally, I figured it out.

I discovered that underneath the stairwell (in which there is a little cubby where we keep things like Christmas decorations and so forth), there is a puzzle sitting on top of some boxes, probably left there by some kids we had babysat a few days earlier.
It's one of those special puzzles that, when you put a piece in, a recording says the name of the shape.
"Triangle."
"Circle."
"Square".
I peered closely at this puzzle, and noticed the pentagon piece was missing. In the center of the empty space is the little sensor that makes the sound, "Pentagon", when you put the piece in.
Upon closer scrutiny, I realized that this particular sensor was especially sensitive.
Even the smallest vibration, I found, could set it off.
And a voice, declaring "Pentagon", would ring out.
And I discovered that, sometimes, the vibrations that I caused from pounding up those stairs all the time was causing the pentagon puzzle piece to go off.

"Pentagon."
"Pent-a-gon"
"Look-they're-gone"

And of course, from the top of the stairs, it sounded like a whisper coming from behind me.

And that is the story of the only ghost encounter I ever had... except it was a puzzle.

THE END.

So there you have it! You see that it really wasn't a ghost at all... but believe me, it sure SOUNDS like a ghost story until the end, so I didn't exactly tell you a falsehood when I called it a 'ghost story'.
Anyways, it was pretty creepy until I figured it out.
I just realized that this is the first 'story snippet' I have ever posted on this blog! Except that this one is a true story...
Well anyways. Have a good day, my friendly peeps!

Why I Love My Mom

    All of the random reasons why my mom is to be celebrated not just on Mother's Day, but every day.

    * * * * *

    MOM: Amaris, have you fed the dogs tonight?

    Me: Yes, mom.

    MOM: They were fed TONIGHT?

    Me: Yes, mom.

    MOM: So the dogs are fed.

    Me: ...Yup.

    MOM: k thnx
     o
    * * * * *

    * * * * *

    Me: *In bed, asleep, at 7 am*

    MOM: Get up, Amaris.

    Me: "........."

    MOM: Get. UP.

    Me: "........."

    MOM: *clenches fist* Get up NOW, or I'm GOING to pummel you.

    Me: ........ what does 'pummel' mean?

    MOM: I don't know. *puts fist under my nose* But we'll find out together.

    * * * * *

    * * * * *

    MOM: Amaris, will you do the dishes please?

    Me: Sure, be right there.

    MOM: You know what, actually, I'll do them.

    Me: Are you sure? I'd be happy to do them in just a sec.

    MOM: Yes, I'm sure. I actually like doing dishes. I'll do them.

    Me: Ok...... If you really want to.

    MOM: Yup.

    *15 minutes later*

    MOM: Nobody ever does a thing in this house.

    * * * * *

    My mom cares about my well being:

    * * * * *
    She puts up with me:
     * * * * *
    She raised me right:

    #thnxmom
    * * * * *
    She taught me everything I know:

    * * * * *
    She notices everything. Every. Little. Thing:

    * * * * *
    She watches out for me when I'm about to do something stupid:

    * * * * *
    She's the best housekeeper I know (she's a wizard):

    * * * * *
    She can ALWAYS find that thing that is 'lost':
    * * * * *
    She likes those dishes DONE:

    * * * * *
    She doesn't like phones:

    She likes Bilbo Baggins:

    *****
     *Watching Sherlock, BBC*

    MOM: Is that Bilbo?

    Me: No... well yes, it's the guy, but right now he's Watson.

    *later in the episode*

    MOM: When does Bilbo come back?

    Me: Watson's away for now, mom.

    *still later in the episode*

    Me: Wow, would you look at that, Sherlock is-

    MOM:  Is this when bilbo comes back

    Me: Mom...he's just-

    MOM: Is that bilbo

    Me: I-

    MOM: bilbo

    Me: Why-

    MOM: That's bilbo

    *****

    She cares about me:

    * * * * *
    She worries about me:

    * * * * *
    She's there for me:

    * * * * *

    She knows I'm dependent on her:

    * * * * *
    She carries it all:

     * * * * *
    She keeps going:

    *****
    Me: Does it ever drive you nuts when the tag in the back of your shirt itches you?

    MOM: I don't get annoyed that easily.

    *15 minutes later*

    MOM: Where is my pen? I had it right here. When I put my pen somewhere I want it to be there when I get back. I shouldn't have to ask everywhere for my pen when it should be right here. I don't know what's gotten into...

    Me: *hands her the pen* I thought you didn't get annoyed easily.

    *****

    She gets me mixed up with my other siblings:

    * * * * *
    She likes to make sure I don't forget:
    My mom gave me some instructions in the car while we were on our way home. She was going to drop me off at the house and head straight to her appointment, so it was my job to have lunch and everything all ready to go.
    When I got in the empty house preparing to fix everything, I noticed that she had put a few 'helpful' notes around the kitchen.
    One was pasted to the handle of the fridge, so that I would see it.
    One was on a bowl IN the fridge, explaining what the contents were and how they related to me and my cooking.
    One was on top of the stove, written on a recipe instructing me how I was going to use this recipe.
    One was pasted to a bag that had a rotten banana in it, telling me how the banana was to be used.
    Even so, with all the notes she left me and the instructions she gave me on our way home, I still had to call her about 5 different times.
    I have a very conscientious mommy and she is amazing.
    What's more, I need her.

    * * * * *

    I love you, Mom.

    p.s. I let my mom read this before I posted it. :)

Praise Jesus But CURSE THE PALM LEAVES!!!

 Just a couple things to let you know that I'm a little weird and I like to laugh at myself, and you may as well.
(a.k.a. just a bunch of interesting things that happened to me and now I'm putting them into a blog post. )

~*~
~So, to begin: a friend of mine was talking to me about how she had a rottweiler who was afraid of thunderstorms. She was telling me the whole story, but my attention began to wander as I was thinking to myself: "Wait... rottweiler... what does a rottweiler look like? Oh, I can't remember. I'm terrible with dog flavors."
Dog flavors.
I called them... flavors

#me: don't you mean dog breeds, amaris
#my brain: lol no it's flavors
~*~
~*~
~So typewriters are interesting because if you have a manual one such as I, then you have to press pretty hard onto the keys to get them to type. There's no problem there, but the issue comes when I get on the computer right after typing on the typewriter and I find myself Ty ping RE A LLY HA R D on ThE keybOARD an d pUN chIng tHeM just liKE I d o ON MY TYpe wR ITER. And my mom comes over and she's like "Why are you banging on those computer keys...?"
Oh. Sorry, mom.
~*~
~*~
~When EVERYONE around me (literally everyone I know at work, at home, at my church...) is getting sick with the same thing, but somehow I don't get it, and I still don't get it, and I STILL DON'T GET IT after 2 months of being exposed again and again, so finally one day I say to my mom: "I guess I'm not going to get sick, then."
AND THE VERY NEXT DAY GUESS WHAT HAPPENS.
~*~
~*~
~One day I was just minding my own business when out of the corner of my ear in the other room I hear my mom say to one of my siblings "No, dear, you may not watch Netflix in the bathroom".
~*~
~*~
~I get this idea to put two fuzzy pom poms in my hair to look like ears. It turned out pretty cute, so the next day my sister decides to do it too after I show her how, and then she takes a picture of herself and sends it to all her friends and they all reply to her with stuff like:
"Oh, that's so cute! What a good idea! So creative! You are so smart and creative for thinking of that!"
And I'm over here like:

~*~
~So I looked at the clock a little while ago after a long day when I'm really tired and it says 11:00 p.m. So  I think: "Oh, look. It's eleventeen."
I called it eleventeen.
 Heh. Hehe.
(I was pretty tired, folks).
~*~
~*~
~So you might know already that I work in customer service and I meet all kinds of people and the thing that's awkward is WHEN I'M TALKING TO A REALLY NICE CUSTOMER AND THEY ARE MAKING ME LAUGH AND THEY ARE JUST SO FUNNY, BUT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR STORY THEY SAY THE F WORD LIKE IT'S NOTHING, AND I'M STILL LAUGHING AT THEIR STORY BUT INSIDE I'M DYING BECAUSE THEY SAID THE F WORD AND I'M LAUGHING AT IT, EVEN THOUGH THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M LAUGHING AT.
#whyyyy

Update: So I told this story to my uncle, and when I finished he just looks at me and says: "You know you're going to Hell, right?"
~*~
~So it's been nice the past few days (you know, because of Spring and all...) so on one of those nice days me and my family go shopping and we come to this loooooong strip mall (It's literally like 1 mile long) and we park FAR away because "Hey, it's a nice day and we need the exercise", so we walk and walk and WALK to one of the stores and we have a great time in the store, and somehow it got really windy while we were in there, so by the time we got out of the store, it was FREEZING because of the chilly wind, and none of us had coats and we had like 4 (extremely heavy) shopping bags per person and so we begin the agonizing 20 minute walk back to the car and in between shivers I'm just like "whose..... idea......was......this......"
It was a fun day, tho.
*shrug*
~*~
~*~
~So  lately for some reason, every time I drink water out of a water bottle, I splash water all over the front of my shirt, so there's water drops and sploshes all over me until I air dry. So the other day at work, I opened my bottle and spilled especially much all over my shirt, and I just looked at myself and the helpless mess I was in, and I looked up and realized that my coworker saw what I did and she just looked at my shirt and then looked at my face and before she said anything I was just like, "Don't. Say. A word."
And she just kind of. Backs. Away.
~*~
~*~
~Like I said up there, I work in customer service, and the other day I after I finished helping a lady out, she picked up her things to go on her way and before she left, she said, "Thank you, son."
Son
I don't know if she just didn't realize what she said, or if she actually thought I looked like a boy or what,
but...
 She called me son.
And I've always seen myself as the feminine one in the family. *shrug*

The other day I was cracking some eggs, and after I cracked one of them, I tried to throw the shell across the room (because I am the epitome of gracious housekeeping) into the trash can, but alas, I missed. With my hands being tied up in what I was doing, I told myself I would pick up the egg shell in a minute. Well, I forgot to.
An hour later, I went into my bedroom to find crushed egg shell pieces chewed up all over my bed, PLUS my bed (which had been neatly made before) was all messed up with the shell pieces strewn all around.
Needless to say, my poor dog got yelled at.
#even though I knew it was my fault because I left the egg shell there practically as an open invitation for him to chew it

And the last thing I have to mention is not very funny, but it's stupid of me just the same, so I have to share it because it kind of explains the title of this post. You all know that we just had Palm Sunday. And of course my church, like many churches, hands out palm leaves to everyone to praise Jesus with. Well, for some reason, this year I had a terrible allergic reaction to the palm leaves.
 I don't know if these were extra dusty or if they had mold on them this year, or what, but at the beginning of the service my noes was itching me like crazy, and by the time we were halfway through the service, my nose was so bad I had to blow it like every 5 minutes and my sister just looked at me like I was nuts because I was blowing so often and then this lady two rows up looked back at me every time I blew, like I was the most disruptive 19-year-old she had ever seen in a church and then this little girl next to me dropped her crayons all over the floor during the sermon and later a 2 year old yelled at me and afterward in the car I sprained my back taking my jacket off.
So if anyone asks you how my Palm Sunday went, you can tell them this.
But I had tacos later, which was great.
Anyways, the moral of the story is: Praise Jesus but CURSE THOSE PALM LEAVES!
(except... don't actually curse. Cursing is rude.)
